Wasiu Shafe

Acting Chief Financial Officer

Wasiu Shafe is the Acting Chief Financial Officer of First HoldCo Plc. An accomplished strategic finance professional with over two decades of post-qualification experience across financial reporting and analysis, assurance & financial due diligence, strategy, treasury and investment management, tax planning, systems and process enhancement, budgeting, and capital planning. He presently leads the Finance Department.

Wasiu started his career with internship stint at Ayo Falaiye & Co (Chartered Accountants) and its sister firm, Southgate Consult, where he honed his skills in financial reporting, assurance, investigations, and financial due diligence before joining the Internal Control & Audit Group of Zenith International Bank.

He later joined First Securities Discount House Limited as Financial Controller before its transition into a merchant bank in 2012 as FSDH Merchant Bank Limited, where he held the same role before assuming the Chief Financial Officer position in 2015 with oversight over the stockbroking and asset management (and its fund portfolios) subsidiaries. Following the business restructuring of the Group into a Financial Holding Company in 2019, Wasiu assumed the position as the pioneer Chief Financial Officer of FSDH Holding Company Limited where he set up the Finance Department and drove the implementation of the business and financial strategy for the Group. A position he held until April 2023 before joining First HoldCo Plc.

Wasiu holds a Higher National Diploma in Accounting (Distinction) from Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State (now Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, Ogun State), Post Graduate Certificate in Management from University of Roehampton, United Kingdom and a Master of Business Administration from Nexford University, USA. He is an alumnus of the Senior Management Programme of the Lagos Business School and has attended local and international training programmes.

He is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Nigeria (ICAN); Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA, UK); Chartered Institute of Taxation, Nigeria (CITN), and Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered). In addition, he is a Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (HCIB) and a certified Balanced Scorecard Professional of the Balanced Scorecard Institute, USA.
